Slaying Your Procrastination Down

Do you constantly put off tasks that need to be completed, only to work on them at the last minute? As a result, your assignment was always completed after the deadline. This is commonly referred to as procrastination. It is a situation in which you postpone your workload despite knowing the negative consequences of doing so for an extended period of time.

Procrastination can be caused by a variety of factors. The most common cause is a false sense of security, which can be exacerbated combined with time blindness. For example, you may believe you have plenty of time to complete a task but end up finishing it well after the deadline.

Another factor that made procrastination challenging, was the lack of motivation to complete the project. This situation arose due to a variety of factors, including a lack of interest in the project, limited time and space to complete it, and a lack of exposure and knowledge about the related topic.

📌 Other factors that are considered as the causes of procrastination:

  • Feeling overwhelmed with the workload

  • Fear of making mistakes

  • Having scattered goals

  • Learning difficulties such as OCD or ADHD

📌 There are many effects of procrastination including as below:

  • Hypertension and other illness

  • Lack of work-life balance

  • Withdrawal from close friends and family members

  • Increase the number of uncompleted assignments

Just like any other problem, there are various ways to overcome procrastination. So, take notes because maybe these tips could help you with your task-delaying habits.

  • Breaking down the task

  • Create a to-do list

  • Asking someone to check up on you

  • Reward yourself after completing the task

  • Keep all of your distractions away

  • Target to complete a task at a time

Although procrastination is a bad thing, do remember that we are all flawed. So, don’t be hard on yourself if you are stuck in the slump. Keep on believing in yourself and your potential.
